Is My Child An Introvert?

Twelve gentle questions to clarify temperament. Not a diagnosis. A starting point.

  1. After a busy day, does your child need quiet alone time before they can talk about it?
  2. At parties, does your child watch first, then join (or not join at all)?
  3. Does your child have one or two close friends rather than a wide group?
  4. Does your child do their best thinking alone or in small groups?
  5. Does your child get overwhelmed by loud, fast environments?
  6. Does your child speak less in big groups but a lot one-on-one?
  7. Does your child need warning before transitions?
  8. Does your child pick up on the moods of people around them quickly?
  9. Does your child prefer deep conversations to small talk, even with adults?
  10. Does your child have a rich inner world (imaginary games, daydreams, complex pretend play)?
  11. Does your child get cranky after long social days even when the day went well?
  12. Does your child need more sleep than peers their age?
