Herb (calming)
Lavender : Essential Oil
Lavandula angustifolia
This is the essential oil form of Lavender. Inhaled lavender lowers heart rate and cortisol within minutes. Internal use is rare for kids, but tea, sachets, and pillow sprays all work.
Typical pediatric dose
Aromatic: 2-3 drops on a cotton ball near (not on) the pillow. Tea: pinch of dried bud added to chamomile.
Safety notes
Skin contact can cause rashes in sensitive kids. Some studies have linked heavy topical lavender oil use in pre-pubertal boys to hormonal effects, so use lightly and aromatically, not topically.
